Forth Dimension Displays joins Microdisplay Consortium
Dalgety Bay, Scotland. December 11th, 2006
Forth Dimension Displays (ForthDD™) of Dalgety Bay, Scotland, has joined the leading trade association in its field, the Micro Device Display Consortium (MDDPC) of Japan.
The MDDPC was formed in September 2006, with founding member companies Arsisawa Mfg. Co., Ltd., Seiko Epson, Texas Instruments Inc. and Victor Company of Japan, Limited (JVC).
The MDDPC informs consumers, retailers, industry experts and the mass media about the benefits of microdisplay technologies used in high definition rear projection televisions (MD-PTV). These benefits include lower energy use and lower carbon emissions than with other HDTV technologies.
MD-RPTVs amounted to 34% of the total shipped units of large televisions (those greater than 40 inch diagonal) in 2005. In the past four quarters, according to market analyst DisplaySearch, the total number of MD-PTV shipments rose by 16.1% between Q3’05 and Q3’06. Industry experts and analysts expect that the new lasers and LEDs used as illumination sources in the next generation of MD-PTVs will further increase the growth of MD-PTVs.

Background Information
About Forth Dimension Displays - http://www.forthdd.com
Our Company
Forth Dimension Displays develops, manufactures and supplies the world's most advanced microdisplays using a proprietary, fast-switching liquid crystal technology.
The Company -- previously named CRLO Displays Ltd -- was formed in September 2004, funded by an "A" series round of $19 M from Amadeus Capital Partners and Doughty Hansen Technology Ventures.
We are located in Dalgety Bay, Scotland across the River Forth from Edinburgh.
In 2005, 90% of our rapidly-growing revenues were from products shipped overseas, mostly to North America and Asia. Our customer base is global. We may be technology-driven, but we are customer-obsessed.
Our technical team has proven experience in applications integration; product engineering (optics, microdisplays, drivers, liquid crystals) as well as manufacturing and Q/A. And our management and board are successful builders of high-technology enterprises.
Our Technology and its Benefits
Our proprietary, high-speed liquid crystal technology has major advantages in performance and cost.
Performance advantages: our technology is all digital. There are no RGB sub-pixels, no separate RGB beams, no tilting mirrors. We process images purely in the time domain - the 4th Dimension. And we do it on just one chip.
This combination allows both amplitude and phase modulated imaging. It provides high native resolution, full 24-bit colour for showing high-speed motion without artefacts. Our technology is well-matched to the new LED and laser diode light sources.
Cost advantages: The single chip has no moving parts, so it is built using standard CMOS wafer processes. The absence of separate RGB light paths enables our customers to use simpler, lower cost optics in their system integration.
A portfolio of more than seventy patents protects our unique TDITM technology.
Applications, Market Segments and Products
Forth Dimension Displays has an established reputation as the leading supplier of premium, high native resolution microdisplays in training and simulation systems for military and aerospace customers. We continue to serve this segment with our chip, driver and board-level products.
We are successfully expanding our products to customers in consumer electronics:
Large screen rear projection HDTV (720p and 1080p)
High resolution "immersive experience" (near-eye) systems for consumer entertainment
Advanced front projection systems
And to customers in emerging segments such as:
Confocal microscopy and image injection for medical diagnostic and surgical systems
Digital printing and imaging systems
High-resolution industrial metrology and process systems
Advanced 3D and holographic imaging systems
