Kick off your Microdisplay or Phase Modulation project with high performance devices designed and manufactured by Forth Dimension Displays in Scotland.
Forth Dimension Displays
Forth Dimension Displays: A world leader in designing and manufacturing high–resolution Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal on Silicon (FLCoS) devices used as Spatial Light Modulators (SLM) for premium near-to-eye microdisplays for military, medical and virtual reality imagers, as well as for structured light projection.
We provide a range of SLM solutions optimised for the best performance in demanding applications. As full service solution provider, we do not just sell products, we also offer our customers full access to Forth Dimension Displays’ extensive technical expertise and experience.
FLCoS is the only microdisplay technology to provide 2K x 2K resolution high contrast digital colour images with high brightness, minimized colour break up but without image burn in. FLCoS is also the fastest SLM for binary phase modulation of coherent laser light.
Burn in describes the fact that high brightness static images cause a degrading image quality in emissive technologies over time.
FLCoS shows red, green and blue subfields sequentially and each subfield is sliced into 8 bit planes for greyscale: digital precision.
FLCoS enables reconfigurable diffractive optical elements to switch faster than 250 µs / 4 kHz. Read Tutorial.
We pride ourselves in developing and manufacturing the FLCoS and interface electronics in Scotland.

“In 2010 ARRI introduced its groundbreaking Alexa digital camera system, which quickly “I just want to write and express my gratitude for the service and support you provide. We are really “We founded our company NVIS Inc. in 2002 based on the nascent SXGA display from the company
went on to become an industry standard for feature, commercial and episodic television productions.
The camera features a high quality electronic viewfinder that ARRI designed around ForthDD’s WXGA FLCoS display.
With the support of ForthDD’s technical team, a product was created to match the imaging performance
of the camera. Since its introduction, over 2000 Alexas have been sold and customer
response has proven that the chosen concept was the right one.”
As DoP Bill Bennett, ASC remarked at the recent NAB show: “In my use of the Alexa over the past year
and a half, I have found that the viewfinder is bright, sharp, color accurate, and easy to judge focus.”
astonished how good your service and support is with respect to your products from early days. In 2005
we bought a microscope based on a display technique which provides the advantage of combining two optical
profiling techniques. After 8 years of heavy use the XGA microdisplay failed due to unclear reasons.
The Supplier of the microscope couldn’t support us with a new replacement XGA display so this would have sent our
microscope (150.000 euro) to the scrapheap. Then I found you guys from ForthDD and I contacted you. ForthDD replied
within half an hour on my desperate email and from that time you guys did a great job. You supported us in a way the
supplier of the microscope should have done and ForthDD could even provide us with a new XGA display which was developed
around 2002. After sending us a new display and repairing the interface board and cables of the Microscope, the system
is up and running again.
Thumbs up for you all, people from ForthDD company, thank you very much for your support and service. So
there are still companies who do take care of their components over years, and …
that’s what ForthDD stands for!
we now know as ForthDD. We took a big risk starting a manufacturing company in a niche industry,
but ForthDD treated us like a partner with an outstanding product, backed by unsurpassed support.
The products we built with the ForthDD microdisplay received immediate praise from customers
who were amazed that a head-mounted display can look better than a desktop monitor.
We continue to use the SXGA microdisplay today new development for products
requiring uncompromising support, reliability, and image quality.”
