Product Will Launch at SPIE Security + Defence Exhibition. Company’s 0.83” QXGA Microdisplay Targets Ultra-Wide Field of View Applications.

Forth Dimension Displays (FDD), a leading provider of high-resolution microdisplays and a subsidiary of Kopin Corporation (Nasdaq: KOPN), today announced that it will introduce its new 0.83” QXGA microdisplay, the world’s highest resolution, full color microdisplay, at the SPIE Security + Defence Exhibition in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

On September 25-26, exhibition attendees will be able to experience the Company’s proprietary display technology by visiting FDD’s booth (#303) at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

Offering 2048 x 1536 pixels, the new 0.83” QXGA microdisplay is ideal for the world’s highest performance near-to-eye applications such as ultra-wide field of view head mounted displays for immersive gaming and military training applications and electronic viewfinders for medical imaging and cinematography cameras.

Greg Truman, CEO of FDD said, “Our new QXGA microdisplay offers the highest resolution available in the near-to-eye microdisplay market. The QXGA display will enable our customers and partners to develop market-leading products and provide the ultimate in image quality to their customer base. We are looking forward to seeing a range of near-to-eye products incorporating our QXGA display enter the market in 2013.”

Forth Dimension Displays at IBC 2012

Forth Dimension Displays (ForthDD) will be exhibiting at IBC 2012 which is held this year at the RAI in Amsterdam, Netherlands between the 7th and 11th of September 2012. ForthDD is co-located with other Scottish media companies at the Scottish Development International pavilion in B26, Hall 9.

ForthDD personnel will be on hand to give updates and, for the first time, take orders for the soon to be released QXGA (2048 x 1536 pixels) microdisplay which will offer one of the highest resolutions available for near to eye applications. To enable fast design in of the QXGA product, ForthDD will launch with the QXGA-R9 board level product with first evaluation systems available from Q1 2013. Forth Dimension Displays at SID 2012 Display Week

Forth Dimension Displays (ForthDD) will be exhibiting at SID 2012 Display Week which is held this year in Boston, MA between the 5th and 7th of June 2012. ForthDD are co-located with Kopin Corporation at booth number 177.

Promoted again this year is ForthDD’s well established SXGA (1280 x 1024 pixels) liquid crystal on silicon microdisplay. With greater than 10 years proven supply into demanding, high fidelity applications including cinematography viewfinders and head mounted displays for military training and simulation, the SXGA has seen a recent update with an increase in fill factor to an industry leading 96%. This higher fill factor further reduces the visibility of pixel structure and increases light efficiency in near to eye and projection applications as well as reducing diffraction errors when illuminated with lasers which is often seen in spatial light modulator applications.

Further, as a result of work undertaken with the School of Engineering at Edinburgh University, ForthDD are proud to have supplied the aforementioned SXGA microdisplay which has enabled Professor Ian Underwood, Krzysztof Nguyen, et al to author a paper entitled “Time of Flight Based 3D Image Sensing Using Holographically Projected Structured Illumination”. This paper presented at SID 2012 will offer a new application of the SXGA microdisplay to provide structured illumination for a Time of Flight based 3D imaging system in order to improve optical signal to noise ratio and reduce optical cross-talk.

Finally, ForthDD personnel will be on hand to give updates on the soon to be released QXGA (2048 x 1536 pixels) microdisplay which will offer one of the highest resolutions available for near to eye applications. Forth Dimension Displays showcases Replicating Reality ™ at GDC 2012

Forth Dimension Displays (FDD), a leading provider of high-resolution microdisplays and a subsidiary of Kopin Corporation (Nasdaq: KOPN), will showcase replicating reality at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference (GDC) to be held from March 7 to 9 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center (SDI booth #1132). Replicating Reality™.

Forth DD’s concept to provide the ultimate visual experience by making the user feel fully immersed in a virtual world or hyper-reality, will now be demonstrated using First Person Shooter (FPS) games.

First shown in a motor racing simulation scenario at E3 in 2011, the Replicating Reality concept could lead the way to revolutionizing the consumer entertainment industry. FDD’s CEO, Greg Truman said, “Our vision is to deliver a display where the user will be unable to tell the difference from reality. The wide field of view, very high resolution microdisplays and head tracking all contribute to a feeling of total immersion in the virtual world. We are excited to demonstrate our new immersive First Person Shooter demo for the first time to the key movers and shakers of the games industry.” GDC is the world’s largest and longest running professionals-only game industry event. Attracting over 19,000 attendees, it is the primary forum where programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audit professionals, business decision-makers and others involved in the development of interactive games gather to exchange ideas and shape the future of the industry.

The demonstration already received a very exciting response from both the international consumer gaming market and media after launching at E3 Expo in Los Angeles and IVR in Tokyo.

Replicating Reality creates the ultimate entertainment experience, making the user feel like they are really there. Offering full immersion in a compelling realistic different world, Replicating Reality truly holds the key to a revolutionary and exciting new experience.

Introduced by our CEO, Greg Truman, this seminar will give delegates the opportunity to try out the demonstration for themselves and learn more about our technology. Key note speakers will include Professor Ian Underwood, a leading expert in microdisplay technology and its many applications and Don McIntyre, a well-known veteran of the 3D graphics industry.

Replicating Reality ™ leaves its mark at E3 Expo

The words on everyone’s lips…

Replicating Reality ™, the virtual reality concept intended to revolutionise the consumer entertainment industry, got off to a good start at the E3 Expo earlier this month. The demonstration system is now en route to IVR, a Virtual Reality, Gaming and 3D metrology show in Tokyo (Jun 22-24) where it’s hoped to repeat the previous success.

The team behind Replicating Reality ™, Forth Dimensions Displays (ForthDD) was pleased with the number of attendees the stand attracted, as well as the response received. Their public relations campaign proved to be successful since the objective of creating a buzz within the industry was certainly achieved. The company and the concept gained some great coverage across the globe, indicating that virtual reality is the direction in which today’s gamers want the industry to go. To top it all off, not only was Replicating Reality™ picked up by BBC news, but the story most popular news item on the BBC News website on the day of broadcast.

Ursula Posch, Marketing and Communications Manager at Forth Dimensions Displays said, ‘We are absolutely delighted with the popularity of this experience, many of those who visited the stand said they had been waiting for something like this for years. At this stage we are ideally seeking to partner with a major player in the gaming industry who can provide the right expertise to take this project forward to the next level.’

ForthDD, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kopin Corporation, is the world’s leading supplier of high resolution microdisplays for Near-To-Eye (NTE) applications. The company’s experience supplying displays for high-performance training and virtual reality head-mounted displays (HMDs) under-pinned the development of the Replicating Reality™ concept which is demonstrated through a fully immersive 3D HMD. The E3 demonstration enabled the user to experience motor racing in a new way, as if driving on a real racetrack. This concept has been designed with a number of potential application areas in mind, it is not restricted simply to the gaming industry. The Replicating Reality™ concept and demonstration has been developed to give the mind the opportunity to ponder as to what the future really holds for the entertainment industry.

For more information on Replicating Reality™ come and speak to ForthDD at IVR 3D and Virtual Reality Expo, booth #24-39. ForthDD will be present at the show from June 22-24, 2011 at Tokyo International Exhibition Center.
