ForthDD Reaches Agreement to Supply Displays to JUTZE Intelligence Technology

Forth Dimension Displays To Supply Leading Chinese Inspection Equipment Manufacturer

November 19, 2018 08:30 AM Eastern Standard Time

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN), a leading developer of innovative wearable computing technologies and solutions, announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Forth Dimension Displays Limited, (ForthDD), has entered into an agreement with JUTZE Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd. (JUTZE) to provide displays for their Mirage series of 3D SPI (Solder Paste Inspection) equipment.

ForthDD is a manufacturer of Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) designed specifically for the 3D SPI, 3D AOI and 3D metrology markets. JUTZE is a leading Chinese inline inspection equipment manufacturer.

Published market research reports forecast that the AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) market (which includes the SPI market) will grow by approximately 16% annually from $350M in 2015 to $1.35B in 2024, with the market in 2023 being more than twice the size of that in 2018. The Asia Pacific region is forecast to have the most systems deployed.

SLMs are a key component of 3D SPI equipment. The SLM is used to project structured light onto the PCB being measured by the 3D SPI machine. The ability to use 3D SPI to measure solder paste in all three dimensions, on every PCB in real time, enables companies to improve yields and product quality while reducing wastage and cost. ForthDD’s SXGA is a fast switching, all digital, high performance reflective Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) product. Designed for inline 3D inspection applications, the widely used SXGA-3DM and newly released smaller form factor SXGA-R12 and M137 LED driver features the industry proven SXGA (1280 x 1024) Time Domain Imaging™ display with a 3D metrology specific display drive interface.

Karl Yang, CEO of JUTZE said, “JUTZE already has a proven position in the market for inline inspection equipment, and partnering with a leading high performance component supplier like ForthDD will enable us to strengthen our position in the 3D SPI market not only in China, but also in other East Asian markets, as well as Europe and the USA.”

Greg Truman, CEO of ForthDD said, “The market for 3D inline inspection machines is growing rapidly around the globe. ForthDD has a very strong position in the market, supplying leading manufacturers in Germany, Japan and South Korea for both 3D SPI and 3D AOI applications. ForthDD is developing a similarly strong position supplying Chinese 3D SPI and 3D AOI machine manufacturers, and this agreement to supply a leading manufacturer like JUTZE is another indication of our successful expansion into China.”

Forth Dimension Displays releases an improved metrology interface for its 1.3 MPixel SXGA SLM

Forth Dimension Displays, a leading supplier of Spatial Light Modulators (SLM) into the in-line 3D metrology market, has delivered the much improved metrology-specific interface board R12 to the first customers.

These customers are updating their existing product to make best use of the smaller footprint of the R12 interface board, the capability to “daisy-chain” multiple boards and the new, size-matching high power LED drive board. Typically, a 3D metrology application requires to trigger several off-axis structured light projectors sequentially in a daisy-chain to enable shadow-free image analysis. The high power LED driver board matches to today’s brightest and most compact LEDs. Increasing the projector’s brightness reduces the camera exposure times for in-line 3D AOI and 3D SPI significantly, therefore allowing higher in-line inspection speed. The optional LED drive piggy-backs onto the R12 board as shown below, making it a very compact system to be integrated into the structured light projector.

The R12-LED board combination drives the 1 MPixel, WXGA SLM and the 1.3 MPixel, SXGA SLM, both renowned for its fast and precise digital performance. The metrology line-up is completed with the 3.1 MPixel, QXGA-3DM system for an even more detailed stripe projection. The QXGA-3DM can also be equipped with the LED drive board.

As always Forth Dimension Displays offers the complete range of product documentation with the development kit and support for projector design by our application engineering team.

Order code: SXGA-R12-LED, WXGA-R12-LED

Forth Dimension Displays to attend Nepcon South China

Forth Dimension Displays (ForthDD), a leading provider of high-resolution Liquid Crystal On Silicon (LCOS) Microdisplays and Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) will be attending at Nepcon South China in Shenzhen.

ForthDD’s team is about to depart for the Nepcon South China exhibition, the leading show for PCB inspection equipment in the Hong Kong area. Held from 29 – 31 August 2017 in Shenzhen, ForthDD will meet current and new customers engaged in the field of 3D optical metrology like 3D Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and 3D Solder Paste Inspection (SPI).

The 1.3MPixel SXGA-3DM SLM has a leading position in the in-line 3D AOI PCB inspection and measurement market. Integrated in structured light projectors it’s showing multi-frequency Moiré patterns at speeds enabling in-line inspection. The more recent 2048 x 1536 pixel QXGA-3DM SLM builds upon this track record by enabling even higher resolution structured light projectors to be built.

QXGA 3DM Forth Dimension Displays

The SXGA-3DM and the QXGA-3DM combine an industry proven SLM technology with a specific non-video drive interface dedicated to metrology applications. The drive interface is capable of storing up to 1024 full resolution images. Bi-directional trigger signals ensure accurate synchronization with other system components such as cameras, light sources and translation tables.

Forth Dimension Displays launches QXGA-3DM Spatial Light Modulator

Forth Dimension Displays (ForthDD), a leading provider of high-resolution Liquid Crystal On Silicon (LCOS) Microdisplays and Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) is pleased to announce the launch of its all-new 3.1MPixel QXGA-3DM SLM at Photonics West 2015, booth 1123.

ForthDD’s 1.3MPixel SXGA-3DM SLM has a leading position in the 3D AOI PCB inspection and measurement market as well as being used for applications as diverse as silicon wafer inspection and super resolution microscopy.

The 2048 x 1536 pixel QXGA-3DM SLM builds upon this track record by enabling even higher resolution structured light systems to be built. Applications that will benefit from this increased performance include 3D inspection of System in Package (SiP) devices and Lattice Light Sheet Microscopy. Recognising the benefits of the increased resolution in leading edge imaging techniques, the first production shipment of a QXGA-3DM will go to long time ForthDD customer Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) for use by Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2014 winner Dr. Eric Betzig’s team.

QXGA 3DM Forth Dimension Displays

The QXGA-3DM combines an industry proven microdisplay with a powerful application specific non-video drive interface. The system can be programmed offline, through the RS-232, RS-485 and USB interfaces, and no controller PC is required for normal operation. The drive interface is capable of storing up to 1024 full resolution images. Bi-directional trigger signals ensure accurate synchronization with other system components such as cameras and translation tables.

The small form factor and light weight of the QXGA-3DM gives system integrators the flexibility to design the display into their existing applications, without compromising the original mechanical design, resulting in a reduced time to market.

Mr Greg Truman, CEO of FDD said, “Our SXGA-3DM is in 24/7 use around the world in the most advanced inspection and imaging systems. In response to demand from our customers for even higher resolutions and performance, we are pleased to launch our new QXGA-3DM product. This will allow our customers to image and inspect even smaller feature sizes and further expand the range of applications for structured light systems.”
